Box Office Review – July 13th: Another Animated Sequel Puts Spider-Man On Ice! - POP GOES THE WEEK!!

Box Office Review – July 13th: Another Animated Sequel Puts Spider-Man On Ice!

Ice Age 4 knocks Spider-Man off his web in the weekend leading up to what could be the biggest weekend of the year and maybe even all-time.

I always admit when I am proven wrong and this week seems to be about that time. I truly thought THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN could withstand a bull rush from ICE AGE 4, and it didn’t.

ICE AGE: CONTINENTAL DRIFT grossed $46 million on its first domestic weekend alone, knocking THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN off its perch! (The second film in the series remains number one with a whopping $68 million opening take.

As for SPIDER-MAN, on the weekend prior to what should be one of the top five weekends of all time (thanks to THE DARK KNIGHT RISES…), Spidey made $35 million, putting it on the $200 million dollar plateau domestically, and bringing it’s worldwide gross in around $531 million.

DC gets its first chance to strike back with TDKR next week.  Expect a record midnight release, another massive first day, and overall weekend that should put the film on top of the record books. THE DARK KNIGHT brought in $158 million…a box office record until last year’s HARRY POTTER finale took the top spot.
