A few weeks ago, we got word that Peter Jackson was possibly planning to turn his two-part adaptation of THE HOBBIT into a trilogy, with an entirely new third film to bridge into his epic LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy.  Well now, we have more confirmation that it may just happen!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, sources close to the production are reporting that Jackson definitely wants to turn the series into a trilogy.  Talks with Warner Bros have recently ramped up, with the WB being completely on board, as long as the financial logistics work out. A source confirms:

“If we’re going to do it, we have to make a decision soon…It’s strongly driven by the filmmakers’ desire to tell more of the story.”

Jackson has already proven that putting this material in his hands will only bring greatness.  And while making a brand new story to bridge J. R. R. Tolkien’s tales may be a bit of a test, something tells me it’ll be just as beautiful as everything that came before it.
