It’s Official! Joss Whedon Will Write And Direct AVENGERS 2
It’s official! After months of speculating, we can report that THE AVENGERS sequel will be staying in the hands of its rightful owner!
Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger said in a quarterly earnings call yesterday that Whedon has signed a three-year exclusive deal confirming that original AVENGERS writer and director Joss Whedon will return to write and direct the sequel!
According to Worst Previews, the deal will last until June 2015 and will include work on AVENGERS 2, as well a new live-action Marvel TV series for ABC. Whedon will also contribute creatively on the entire second phase of Marvel’s galaxy, which includes IRON MAN 3, CAPTAIN AMERICA 2, THOR 2, ANT MAN, and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.
No word on what the ABC television series would be, although many have been speaking about the “Hulk” series that Marvel has wanted to bring to the small screen for some time.
Either way, with AVENGERS becoming the third highest grossing film of all time, as well as being just plain amazing throughout, something tells me that phase two is in good hands…
