Michael Bay Says Not To Blame Him For Horrid TMNT Script!
Last week, a copy of the new TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES script was leaked online, outraging fans with its insane differences from the source material. Now, producer Michael Bay is speaking out, telling fans to not blame him or his production company for the horrible ideas we had to read.
Bay wrote to fans on his own site, ShootForTheEdit.com, saying that the script we all saw was done before he was ever involved with the project:
“The leaked script for ‘Ninja Turtles’ was written well before I, or anyone at Platinum Dunes, was involved with the project. That script saw the shredder a long time ago. This is tired, old news — Wait for the movie!”
When fans immediately pointed out that Bay might have had his dates mixed up a bit (Platinum Dunes joined the project in 2010, while the script was written on January 30th, 2012), Bay responded again, saying,
“Yes, we signed on two years ago to ‘Turtles,’ but with no deal in place. Deal completed towards end of last year. And yes, that’s how long deals sometimes take. So no work was done on the script. Blame Paramount, not us for the first draft.”
While those comments are reassuring that at least the director feels the same way we did, Bay is still backing himself into a corner a bit. We all have very low expectations for this movie so far, and if Bay doesn’t deliver after all this, it could cause a huge backlash…
NINJA TURTLES is set to hit theaters May 16th, 2014. Only time will tell if fans will want to hit back…
