As many of you may have heard (by your own love for the Beiber, or by your child’s crying last night when they found out…), Justin Beiber did NOT will the Best New Artist Award at the Grammys. Instad, Esperanza Spalding (one hell of a jazz artist, if I do say so myself…) took the award home.
And with that, Beliebers all over the world took to the internet to fight back. According to PopEater, Spalding’s Wikipedia page was hacked and changed around numerous times. At points, her middle name on the page was changed to both “Justin” and “Quesadilla.” Another very determined fan also wrote: “Justin Bieber deserved it go die in a hole. Who the heck are you anyway?”
There were also many, many angry tweets ranging from annoyance to major racist insults. One of the lighter ones shows that according to Beiber fans, the size of your twitter followers is what should could in major awards ceremonies:
“So the Esperanza Spalding has only 8 thousand followers on twitter and how many does justin bieber has?”
I guess that only confirms that size doesn’t matter…
By this morning, most of Spalding’s Wikipedia page had been restored with its pre-win information. Bieber himself seems to be taking the loss graciously, tweeting to calm his fans:
“As for the awards…of course I wanted to win. Its been & still is a dream to win a grammy. Was I upset…yes. But I was happy for her also. Someone said to me tonight its not your successes that define u but your failures. I lost..but I don’t plan on this being my last chance.”
However, that’s probably also because his film is number two at the box office this weekend, and he has one of the most talked about performances of the night.
