Rapture Watch: If You Can Read This, The World Hasn’t Ended.

Despite weeks of promise that the world would end at 6pm Saturday May 21st, and a lot of money spent on posters, it seems the doomsday promoters will have to pay that upcoming visa bill after all. We’re still here.

89 year old Oakland, California radio minister Harold Camping was the ‘Apocalypse Now-er’ who despite having a healthy amount of egg on his face, likely has some sort of explanation, perhaps something about digital clocks during bible times being slightly more temperatmental than they are today. Or maybe he likes to set his clock a few centuries fast. Who knows? So far he hasn’t commented… nor has he shown up outside the radio station his followers drove to for the big non-event.

The San Francisco Chronicle caught up with one man who desperately wanted the end sooner rather than later… he drove from Maryland to California to be with Camping’s followers. Now he’s bummin’.

“I was hoping. I think heaven will be a lot better than this earth.”

I can’t disagree with him that heaven will be better than earth. That’s kind of the point, right? But let’s not rush, nor rack up credit card bills on posters and cross country trips before it’s time.

That said, it’s got to be a little freaky right now in Iceland, where a volcano erupted today. (Yeesh, okay that would have gotten my attention!)  The Grimsvotn volcano, under the Vatnajokull glacier in south-east Iceland had a small eruption ,but not as big as the nearby volcano that erupted last year.
