Lennon Publicist Says Lennon NOT a Regan Supporter, Believed in “Imagine”

We all thought we were finding out a new side of John Lennon yesterday, when Lennon’s former assistant, Fred Seaman, claimed that Lennon was “embarrassed” by the lyrics to “Imagine” and was a huge Reagan supporter.  Well now, someone else is coming forward to say that’s all bull.

According to TMZ, Lennon’s former publicist and close friend, Elliot Mintz, said that Lennon believed in “Imagine” completely and without doubt:

“From the time I met John in 1971, until the end, all of those things he expressed in ‘Imagine’ were part of his belief system until the last breath of his life…If you listen to the last recorded interviews that were done with John, you’ll hear him express in his own words … his own beliefs … which are virtually identical to the beliefs he held in ’71.”

And what does Mintz think about Seaman?

“Apparently his memory was refreshed at the same time his documentary’s release date was imminent … Fred Seaman has a distorted revisionist view of history.”

“Imagine” is such an iconic song, I don’t think any view Lennon could have had at the end of his life could affect it.  However, it is nice to know that he did believe what he inspired so many to believe.
