Sad news to report today, as we have the final results on Amy Winehouse’s toxicology tests.
According to Coroner Suzanne Greenaway, Winehouse died as a result of drinking too much. She gave a verdict of “death by misadventure.”
Pathologist Suhail Baithun told the singer’s inquest today that Winehouse had consumed a “very large quantity of alcohol” and was more than five times over the legal drunk-driving limit when she died.
No illegal drugs were found in Winehouse’s system.
“Misadventure” means it wasn’t premeditated. In other words it was a mistake, not a suicide.
It takes a great deal of skill to determine the difference, especially with “troubled” personalities, who are often inclined towards the “suicide” route.
The Coroner’s ruling was measured and may bring some crumb of comfort to Amy’s family, in that she did not deliberately mean to leave them.
