Garth Brooks had donated $500,000 to an Oklahoma hospital for them to build a women’s health center in his late mother’s honor. Now they’ve been ordered to return the 500K and pay an additional 500K in damages.

Brooks’ filed a breach-of-contract lawsuit against Integris Canadian Valley Regional Hospital in Yukon. He thought he’d reached a deal in 2005, but sued after learning the hospital wanted to use the money for other construction projects.

The hospital claims that Brooks hadn’t put limitations on his donation initially, only later asking for the health center in his mother’s name. Garth’s mother Colleen died of cancer in 1999.

After the decision, Brooks called the jurors “heroes,” saying “I no longer feel like I’m crazy.”

But hospital attorney Terry Thomas said Brooks’ gift initially came in anonymously, without restriction.
