Ricky Gervais Doesn’t Care Who He Offends On Sunday…Even You

This Sunday, the Golden Globes will take to the air, and with it, the Don Rickles of our time, Ricky Gervais. And if you're wondering, as host, Gervais says he will not be holding back any punches, and doesn't care who he offends...even if it's you.

This Sunday, the Golden Globes will take to the air, and with it, the Don Rickles of our time, Ricky Gervais.  And if you’re wondering, as host, Gervais says he will not be holding back any punches, and doesn’t care who he offends…even if it’s you.

In an interview with Matt Lauer this week, Gervais spoke about his times hosting the Globes, and bluntly put out his opinion: he’s not going to stop just because someone is offended, so stop being so offended.  He said,

“What am I doing? I’m coming up with jokes and annoying people…I think offense is taken, not given. If you don’t let yourself be offended, you’re not offended. Some people are offended by quality; some people are offended by mixed marriage; some people are offended by homosexuality. What are we meant to do, stop all those things because someone’s offended? No.”

Despite rumors that Gervais only hosted the Globes a third time because of the amount of money thrown at him, he says that it is exactly the opposite.  He does what he wants only when he enjoys it:

“I’ve never done anything for money. I’ve never done anything for a million pounds that I wouldn’t do for free. Bob Dylan said a man could consider himself a success if he wakes up in morning, goes to bed each night and in between did exactly what he wanted. That’s success. That’s what I’ve always done.”

So will this year be just as ‘offensive’ as last year?  Not according to Ricky!  Especially since he didn’t think last year was offensive at all!

“I didn’t think last year was offensive…I’m going to do the same as I did last year. If you think it’s offensive, I don’t care. Because I don’t think it is.”

The 2012 Golden Globe Awards airs this Sunday at 8:00 p.m. on NBC.
