Kirk Cameron’s ‘Growing Pains’ Dad: Kirk Needs A Spanking. - POP GOES THE WEEK!!

Kirk Cameron’s ‘Growing Pains’ Dad: Kirk Needs A Spanking.

Who would ever have thought the "Growing Pains" family's deepest family woes would be decades after the show ended production. Now Kirk Cameron's TV family seem to think the actor should be grounded. Or as Alan Thicke would put it - spanked - for his hateful remarks.

Family Feud.

Who would ever have thought the “Growing Pains” family’s deepest family woes would be decades after the show ended production. Now Kirk Cameron’s TV family seem to think the actor should be grounded. Or as Alan Thicke would put it – spanked – for his hateful remarks.

Cameron, the former Growing Pains star, is in damage control mode (more on that below) after making controversial statements about homosexuality on CNN”s Piers Morgan show… calling homosexuality “unnatural,” and adding, “I think that it’s detrimental, and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization.”

Alan Thicke, who played Cameron’s TV dad from Growing Pains, responded on Twitter, “I’ll address kirk’s comments as soon as I recover from rush limbaugh’s” and “I’m getting him some new books. The Old Testament simply can’t be expected to explain everything.” He later tweeted, “I love Kirk but I may have to spank him…’tho not in a gay way!”

Tracy Gold, who played Cameron’s “Growing Pains” sister, also did some tweeting, writing: “I am a strong supporter of the #LGBT Community, and I believe in equal rights for all.”

Other celebrities responded to the controversy as well – including “Modern Family” star Jesse Tyler Ferguson, rock star Nikki Sixx and Roseanne Barr. Barr described Cameron “an accomplice to murder with his hate speech.”

Cameron has since begun the process of unsticking his foot from his mouth, but not quite so successfully. In an email to ABC News.

Says Cameron:

“I spoke as honestly as I could, but some people believe my responses were not loving toward those in the gay community. That is not true. I can assuredly say that it’s my life’s mission to love all people.”

“I should be able to express moral views on social issues … especially those that have been the underpinning of Western civilization for 2,000 years — without being slandered, accused of hate speech, and told from those who preach ‘tolerance’ that I need to either bend my beliefs to their moral standards or be silent when I’m in the public square.”

“I believe we need to learn how to debate these things with greater love and respect,” he said, before adding, “I’ve been encouraged by the support of many friends (including gay friends, incidentally).”

GLAAD, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, responded to the email appropriately:

“Saying that gay people are ‘detrimental to civilization’ might be ‘loving’ in Kirk Cameron’s mind, but it’s gay youth and victims of bullying who truly suffer from adults like Cameron who espouse these ideas … Obviously, Cameron has the right to recite his anti-gay talking points, just like fair-minded Americans have the right to tell him that his views are harmful and have no place in modern America.”

I disagree vehemently with all of Kirk Cameron’s sentiments. As sad as his remarks are, if there is anything I can gain from what he said, it is this: the knowledge, awareness and ability to refuse to watch any single project he works on or contribute to the success of any organizaiton, program or entity that hires him.

  • Those who practice the homosexual lifestyle, you will not blind the eyes of everyone to what is right and what is wrong. You can use all of the the people in the narcisstic entertainment industry to attempt to hide the truth but it won’t work.
