UPDATE: Whitney Houston’s Cause of Death: Accidental Drowning With Cocaine in System
UPDATE: An official for the L.A. County Coroner’s Office just confirmed that Whitney Houston used cocaine immediately prior to her death.
Coroner Chief Craig Harvey just said in a news conference that toxicology reports suggest Whitney was a “chronic” cocaine user.
Harvey described the cocaine level in Whitney’s system as “acute”, meaning that Whitney used cocaine not long before she drowned.
All the other drugs in her system–marijuana, Benadryl, Flexeril, and Xanax–were all at or below therapeutic levels.

Whitney Houston’s cause of death has been determined.
According to TMZ, the L.A. County Coroner has just released a report saying the singer’s cause of death was by accidental drowning.
The report also notes heart disease and cocaine use were contributing factors to Whitney’s demise. A source connected to the investigation says it’s possible that she could have had a heart attack triggered by hardening of the arteries as a result of past cocaine use.
The Houston family released a statement just a few hours ago, saying “We are saddened to learn of the toxicology results, although we are glad to now have closure.”
Whitney was found dead in a bathtub at the Beverly Hilton hotel last month. She was 48 years old.
