Lionel Richie Returns To The Top Of The Charts After 25 Years

Look out Lady Gaga – check yourself Nicki Minaj, hold on, Adele… Lionel Richie is now #1 on the record charts!

This week, Richie’s latest album, “Tuskegee,” which features fresh takes on his 80’s hits with top country stars, hit the top of the bilboard charts – a notable event given that his last appearance on the top of the charts was more than 25 years ago. (1986’s Dancing On The Ceiling.)

“Tuskegee” sold more than 128,000 copies over the past week, according to Nielsen SoundScan, and surpassed releases from Nicki Minaj and Adele in its ascent to the pole position.  So far, the album has sold 423,000 copies.

The album, a tribute to the singer’s hometown of Tuskegee, Alabama, features duets with Shania Twain, Willie Nelson, Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles, Kenny Chesney, Blake Shelton and more. 

But one artist who isn’t  recapturing the magic of 1980’s success? Madonna. Her album “MDNA” has fallen off the Top 10 in its third week on the chart. It’s currently No. 18 with 21,000 sold for the week, 428,000 copies in total.
