Could Matt Damon and Jeremy Renner team up for a BOURNE sequel?
When the newest Jason Bourne movie was made official and the news that neither Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Trilogy) nor Jason Bourne himself Matt Damon would return the question always was who would take the reins?
That role went to one of the most popular actors around: Oscar Nominated Jeremy Renner (THE TOWN, THE AVENGERS) who earned most of his roles after getting nominated for THE HURT LOCKER in 2010 and THE TOWN in 2011.
Then it was decided that Renner would not play Bourne at all, instead he plays Aaron Cross, an agent who unlike Bourne knows who he is and actually wants to be there. The film co-stars newcomers to the series Rachel Weisz and Edward Norton and brings back Joan Allen, David Strathairn, Albert Finney and Scott Glenn along with others.
In THE BOURNE LEGACY Things eventually go sour for Cross and that is where the action begins with the movie releasing in August. Directed and written by Oscar Nominated Director and writer Tony Gilroy (MICHAEL CLAYTON) who penned all three of the previous Bourne movies and with a trailer released with many returning characters from the series and a few new ones the film looks to have actually come together nicely without its former lead and director.
SPOILER ALERT!
Yet that has not stopped producer Frank Marshall for telling Empire this week that he dreams of a sequel in which both Renner and Damon team up in a THE BOURNE LEGACY sequel. Now whether that means Marshall has the intention of bringing back Paul Greengrass who left and caused Damon to leave as well is yet to be seen. That also probably means that Renner’s character as predicted by many actually survives the first movie and leads to another trilogy.
