What Happened to The Joker In THE DARK KNIGHT RISES? We Have Your Answer

While Christopher Nolan has made it clear that the Joker would be completely off limits for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES due to Heath Ledger's death, many fans have still asked for a fictional reason that would make sense in the world of Gotham City. Well now, you may have an answer to finally satisfy your craving.

While Christopher Nolan has made it clear that the Joker would be completely off limits for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES due to Heath Ledger’s death, many fans have still asked for a fictional reason that would make sense in the world of Gotham City.  Well now, you may have an answer to finally satisfy your craving.

According to Worst Previews, Greg Cox’s official novelization of the film gives those fans the specific reason they wanted, bluntly stating:

“Now that the Dent Act had made it all but impossible for the city’s criminals to cop an insanity plea, it (Blackgate Prison) had replaced Arkham Asylum as a preferred location for imprisoning both convicted and suspected felons. The worst of the worst were sent here, except for the Joker, who, rumor had it, was locked away as Arkham’s sole remaining inmate. Or perhaps he had escaped. Nobody was really sure. Not even Selina.”

I have to admit, while it may just be a throwaway reason in a random paragraph, I really like the idea of seeing The Joker all alone in an abandoned Arkham Asylum.  It’s at the same time poetic and the creepiest possible image you could have in your head for the Batman universe.
Touché, Mr. Cox, touché.
