Baz Luhrmann’s THE GREAT GATSBY Pushed Back to Summer 2013

Whether you’re a fan of F. Scott Fitzgerald or Leonardo DiCaprio, you’re going to have to wait a little while longer to see their next film.

Warner Bros reported yesterday that their new film adaptation of Fitzgerald’s classic, THE GREAT GATSBY, has been pushed back to Summer 2013.

Apparently, the studio feels that the film would play better in the summer, given the 3D aspect.  International distribution president for Warner Bros, Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, said in a statement:

“The responses we’ve had to some of the early sneak peeks have been phenomenal, and we think ‘The Great Gatsby’ will be the perfect summer movie around the world,”

I don’t know if they’re basing the summer feel off of Tobey Maguire and Leonardo DiCaprio, but this isn’t 1998.  To me, if you ever make a film based on “Great Gatsby”, it should be awards worthy…not a summer blockbuster.  I have no doubt that the reviews have been great, and that’s why it shouldn’t be pulled of contention for this year’s Oscars, as it now is.

But hey…if the money is made, the money is made…right?
