Dan Aykroyd Says GHOSTBUSTERS 3 Ready To Shoot Next Year
Is it actually coming true? Is this really it? Is GHOSTBUSTERS III finally coming back to theaters??
In a new interview with Metro newspaper, Dan Aykroyd is messing with the hearts of fans everywhere yet again, saying that GHOSTBUSTERS III is going through rewrites, and will finally be ready to shoot next year!
In this interview excerpt (via JoBlo), the actor/comedian describes where the story will be going, fan expectation, and the rumors of whether Bill Murray will actually be back:
“Is Ghostbusters 3 finally happening?
Yes, we’ve got a brilliant new writer on it and we’ll be passing the torch on to a new generation. We’re working on it to make it just right to satisfy our fans. I’m confident we’ll be in production in the next year.
It’s been a long process, hasn’t it?
Yes, but now we’ve got the studio on side. We’ve tried a few concepts which weren’t right but now we’ve got a good structure and will make it happen.
Is Bill Murray doing it?
No, I can tell you he won’t be involved.
How do you feel about that?
It’s sad but we’re passing it on to a new generation. Ghostbusters 3 can be a successful movie without Bill. My preference would be to have him involved but at this point he doesn’t seem to be coming and we have to move on. It’s time to make the third one.”
There have been a number of unwanted sequels over the past few years that have been pleasant surprises. There have also been a number of wanted sequels that have been the complete opposite. I’m not sure which category a GHOSTBUSTERS III would fall into…On one hand, I don’t know anybody who wouldn’t want to revisit those beautiful characters. On the other hand, the feeling of forcing a hand (especially without Bill Murray and the hint of sequels with a new generation) is overwhelming…
I guess the real question is are you desperate for a sequel, or could you live comfortably with just a Part I and a Part II?
