Last week, we told you that Michael J. Fox is making his return to television (I don’t know about you, but I had an extra skip in my step the rest of the day…).  And now, we have more information on the show, including what network was able to scoop it up!

According to MSNBC, NBC has given Fox’s new series a straight-to-series order!  Arrested Development” writer Sam Laybourne is on board, as well as EASY A director Will Gluck, and it will start production on a full 22 episode season later this year.

The untitled single-camera comedy will star Fox “as a husband and father of three from New York City dealing with family, career and challenges, including Parkinson’s disease.”  NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt said in a statement yesterday,

“To bring Michael J. Fox back to NBC is a supreme honor, and we are thrilled that one of the great comedic television stars is coming home again…From the moment we met with Michael to hear his unique point of view about this new show, we were completely captivated and on board. He is utterly relatable, optimistic and in a class by himself, and I have no doubt that the character he will create — and the vivid family characters surrounding him — will be both instantly recognizable and hilarious. Being in business with him is a pleasure of the highest order.”

Fox, himself, also spoke out about his new series, saying,

“I’m extremely pleased to be back at NBC with a great creative team and a great show. Bob Greenblatt and all the folks at the network have given me a warm welcome home, and I’m excited to get to work.”

This series will be the 51-year-old actor’s first return to NBC since he starred on “Family Ties” from 1982-1989. (His last starring television role was more than a decade ago on the classic “Spin City”.)  He is nominated for two Emmys this year for his roles on “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and “The Good Wife”.

Filming will begin this year for a fall 2013 premiere.
