Whenever I’ve played “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon”, I’ve always been stunned to find out how true it really is…there really is not one person out there who Bacon isn’t connected to!
Well now, for no apparent reason, Google has created a high-tech cheat for the game. All you have to do is type in “Bacon number”, followed by the name of a random actor or star, and in seconds, Google will tell you the direct connection between the two!
So what was the motivation behind the project? Yossi Matias, the Engineering Director and Head of the Israeli Engineering Center, says that it was all a way to show the extreme power of Google’s search engine:
“If you think about search in the traditional sense, for years it has been to try and match, find pages and sources where you would find the text.”
It’s moments like these where you just learn to love Google even more…
