BOX OFFICE REPORT: TAKEN 2 Beats Up The Box Office! - POP GOES THE WEEK!!

BOX OFFICE REPORT: TAKEN 2 Beats Up The Box Office!

Liam Neeson is back in TAKEN 2 and it beat up the competition.

The man with the particular set of skills is back and it’s no shocker he has already beaten the crud out of the competition!

In it’s opening weekend alone, TAKEN 2 has brought in a cool $50 million dollars, double what the original TAKEN made back in 2009. The film also broke the record for the best October opening for a PG-13 movie, and is the 3rd for best take of any October movie behind JACKASS 3D ($50.4 million) and PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 3 ($52.6 million)!

TAKEN 2 took home another $55 million over-seas giving it $105 million on a $45 million budget.

As for the other big piece of competition this weekend, Tim Burton’s FRANKENWEENIE took home a lousy $11.5 million coming in 5th place. Based on Burton’s short film from 1984, FRANKENWEENIE cost just under $40 million to make, and despite it’s low earnings, has already earned plenty of Oscar buzz as an animated feature film.

The rest of the top five were filled with older releases:  Adam Sandler’s HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA nabbed second place with $27.1 million, Anna Kendrick’s gleeful PITCH PERFECT went nationwide this week and came in 3rd with an impressive $14.8 million and the Joseph Gordon-Levitt/Bruce Willis action/Sci-Fi thriller, LOOPER came in 4th as it took in another $12.1 million in it’s second full week.

Next week should be tough on the competition with Ben Affleck’s newest film and Oscar contender ARGO, Kevin James taking on some MMA to save his school in HERE COMES THE BOOM, Ethan Hawke finding terrifying videos that bring more horror upon his family in SINISTER, and Colin Farrell and Christopher Walken stealing a good number of random dogs for profit in SEVEN PSYCHOPATHS.
