What Do Justin Bieber, Ryan Gosling and Avril Lavigne Have In Common…? They’re All Relatives!
If I would have told you that one day, your descendants would not spawn one, but THREE famous artists…would you believe me?
Well that’s the case when it comes to Avril Lavigne, Justin Bieber and Ryan Gosling!
It turns out that genealogists at Ancestry.com have done a little research and figured out that the pop star, heart throb, and rocker (all Canadian…) are all related!
Don’t get confused just yet…it’s not like the three share the same mother or aunt. Their family link actually dates back over 400 years ago to some of Quebec’s earliest settlers! Bieber and Gosling are 11th cousins once removed, and Bieber and Lavigne are 12th cousins, all of whom share common relatives Mathurin Roy and Marguerite Bire, who were born in France in the early 1600s, married in 1637, and moved to Quebec soon after.
So how did Ancestry.com researchers figure all this out? Michelle Ercanback says that it all started about a year ago when her group started looking through teen-idol magazines to find info about Bieber’s family history:
“The great thing about family history is that you never know what you’re going to find…It was a very pleasant surprise.”
And if that’s not enough for you to swallow, it turns out the Biebs is also 10th cousins three times removed with Celine Dion! The two are linked to French couple Jacques Vezina and Marie Boisdon, who were born in the early 1600s.
Guess with all those connections, Justin does have some superstar gene in his body after all! (Sadly, I don’t think he got the same gift for acting…)
