Condragulations are in order for pop culture icon, RuPaul. The legendary, drag queen entertainer and host of the hugely successful RuPaul’s Drag Race, was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday. The drag superstar, told Entertainment Tonight that this has been a dream since childhood and has taken 36 years to come to fruition. RuPaul rose to popularity in the 90’s when he released a dance album entitled Supermodel of the World, which spawned two number 1 hits on the Billboard chart. Later, he signed with MAC Cosmetics becoming the first ever drag queen supermodel. His 90’s success culminated in a talk show on VH1, which brought a cheeky cheer to the talk show genre. RuPaul’s career has remained steadfast through the years, and most recently has earned an Emmy for his competition/reality show RuPaul’s Drag Race. With his career hotter than ever, it only makes sense that the icon receives acknowledgement from Hollywood. The ceremony brought many familiar faces and supporter’s of Ru’s, with Ross Mathews, and Todrick Hall in the crowd. Legend herself, Jane Fonda introduced Ru and declared that his star should be “at least three sizes bigger than ant other star on the walk of fame.” So here’s to Ru, who we all know is definitely going to Shantay AND Stay!
