YASSSS: Adam Rippon Slays ‘Sissy That Walk’ On DWTS Premiere - POP GOES THE WEEK!!

YASSSS: Adam Rippon Slays ‘Sissy That Walk’ On DWTS Premiere

Adam Rippon is wasting no time in becoming Gay America’s sweetheart….or America’s gay sweetheart…either way the pro ice skater is quickly becoming a hero to many. Last night the 26th season of Dancing With The Stars premiered and Rippon tore the dance floor up with a cha-cha to the Rupaul song, “Sissy That Walk.” Of course there was some good cha-cha-ing, but more importantly there was voguing, strutting and even a quasi death-drop. The performance was met with uproarious cheer, a standing ovation from the audience, and a tie for first place from the judges scores. The judges unanimously praised Rippon’s performance and gave him a total score of 24 out of 30.

Sure…a man clad in sheer and sequins, kiki-ing with his gal pal sounds like what you would see at any given happy hour at the Stonewall, but this performance is much more than that. DWTS is a huge platform that influences mainstream America. Choosing a gay anthem to dance was an excellent way for Rippon to stay authentic and provide much needed LBGT representation. The performance clearly resonated well with the judges and the studio audience, and I’m sure America will follow suit!
