Fantasia Barrino wowed her alma mater when she returned to the American Idol stage to sing her new single “Collard Greens and Cornbread.”The season 3 winner was decked out in a flashy form fitting red dress and showed the audience that she’s still got that signature voice that made her a standout. Her album, ‘Back to Me,’ launched in August. In the years since idol, she appeared on Broadway and had a reality show. She then had an affair with a married man, whom she says she thought was single at the time. She also overdosed on sleeping pills in a suicide attempt.
She later told GMA:
“There’s so much that people don’t understand. They just see the glitz and the glamour, and they feel like life is so perfect, but we’re human and we go through things,” she said, listing the loss of her career and management among the major blows.
She wrote an autobiography that came out over the summer and has been open about her struggle to reconcile her life in the spotlight.
