Meredity Vieira To Exit “TODAY.”

After months of speculation, Meredith Vieira has confirmed to viewers that she will leave NBC’s “TODAY” show in June. Ann Curry will take over the co-anchor chair. Video of her emotional announcement on live television is below.

I was among the first producers to work with Meredith on TODAY when I produced a taped spot welcoming her to the show on her very first day. I was fortunate enough to work with her in many stories that followed. We worked on a story together about testing your dog’s IQ, which we did at her house, and she was incredible. (Her dog didn’t test so well, however.)

Vieira said she hopes to stay with the network in some capacity, but wants to spend more time with her three children and husband Richard M. Cohen. Cohen, 63, has multiple schlerosis.
