AMERICAN REUNION Directors Want to Remake BACK TO THE FUTURE - POP GOES THE WEEK!!

AMERICAN REUNION Directors Want to Remake BACK TO THE FUTURE

There are some statements out there that are just so wrong, so dirty, so sacrilegious, that the world should never hear them. One of those statements: "We want BACK TO THE FUTURE."

There are some statements out there that are just so wrong, so dirty, so sacrilegious, that the world should never hear them.  One of those statements: “We want BACK TO THE FUTURE.”

According to Worst Previews, AMERICAN REUNION directors Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg just signed a two-year deal with Universal Pictures.  The studio said in a statement:

“We entrusted Jon and Hayden with one of Universal’s most valuable franchises and we are thrilled with the result,” said the studio. “They really know how to make crowd-pleasing comedies and we are excited to expand our relationship with them on other projects they create.”

As some uncle once said, “With great power comes great responsibility” (probably my uncle Nick or someone…I dunno).  And with their power, Hurwitz and Schlossberg want to remake the classic 1980s trilogy:

“We want BACK TO THE FUTURE.  That’s our favorite trilogy. We’re always having this conversation.”

But before you have a heart attack (as I almost just did when I read those words), Shlossberg said that bringing back the franchise is not something they would do anytime soon:

“I wouldn’t want to do it now because people would be like, ‘Oh, there’s no way it will be as good as the original,’…But 30 years from now when Spielberg’s like 90 and those guys are kind of on their way out, and those movies just look really old, it would be great to have all these classics that you’re able to remake.”

As much as this may hurt me to say, I respect that idea.  I mean, if they love and respect the trilogy enough to wait to remake it and do it right, then I’ll give it a shot.  At that point, it’ll probably be pretty cool to see it anew.  Just, please, don’t do it now…
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to unpause my DVD player.  Doc is still hanging from the clocktower…it’s rude to leave him there…
