DJ Blacklow Picks 10 Great Mixes To Dance To This Weekend

10) “Big Hoops” (Wideboys Remix), Nelly Furtado

Finally, Nelly Furtado is back!! It’s been 6 years since “Promiscuous,” and I expect a complete takeover of U.S. radio any day now. The first single isn’t likely to be the album’s biggest hit, but the Wideboys remix is quite good.

9) “Glitter & Gold” (Cahill Mix), Rebecca Ferguson

If you haven’t heard of this U.K. “X Factor” Season 7 runner-up, it’s time to educate yourself. The soulful 25-year-old’s debut album hits the U.S. market this month, and it’s a real gem. The new single is ethereal and haunting, with a great dance beat courtesy of the gents from Cahill.

 8) “Paddling Out” (Jacques Lu Cont Remix), Miike Snow

A holdover from my Coachella list two weeks ago, this track isn’t traditional “dance music” by any means, but it definitely represents the highest artistic and creative levels of EDM. Lu Cont is Stuart Price, the world-famous music producer, of Madonna’s “Confession’s” album fame.

7) “The Night Out” (A-Trak vs. Martin Rework , Madeon and Maison & Dragen Remixes), Martin Solveig

I can’t get enough of this track, another uplifting and brilliant song from this most esoteric French DJ of them all. While the original completely stands on its own, try these remixes as well. And the 10-minute epic music video – which is really more of a short movie – is very fun to watch.

6) “Turn Up The Radio” (Richard Vission Speakers Blow Mix), Madonna

My favorite track from Madge’s latest album finally gets treated by a world-class producer.

5) “Dance Again, (Raphael Lelis Haus and Thiago Anthony Mixes), Jennifer Lopez

There are literally about two dozen official remixes out there, but these two non-commissioned Brazilian treatments are the top notch ones in my opinion.

4) “Guetta’s Calling Solveig Up” (Kap Slap Bootleg), Sebastian Ingrosso, Alesso and Dragonette

I’m still trying to figure out who exactly “Kap Slap” is (I think he’s a 22-year-old college student at Lehigh University) but this guy can do mash-ups like almost no one I’ve ever heard.

 3) “How We Do (Party)” (Gustavo Scorpio Club Mix), Rita Ora

Another of my favorite new tracks of the week comes from another new artist you’ll be hearing a lot more from soon. Brit import Rita Ora – a former Eurovision auditionee — is signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation and will be opening for Coldplay for most of the rest of the summer. The Gustavo Scorpio remix is just plain dancefloor fun.

 2) (tie) “Wide Awake” (Kaskade & Jump Smokers remixes) & “Climax” (Kaskade Remix), Usher

The tie here goes to the remix work of a single DJ – in the case, Kaskade, who is by most folks’ opinions, is the most popular working U.S. DJ currently. With new remixes of two of the biggest artists on the planet, his star may be ascending even further soon. The “Wide Awake” remix is a drum n’ bass departure for him (not so much my thing, but I appreciate it). His “Climax” remix is quite fittingly… explosive!

 1) “Payphone” (DJ Reidiculous or Sex Ray Vision Mixes), Maroon 5 feat. Wiz Khalifa

I can’t get enough of Maroon 5’s latest, and I think it’s gonna be the song of the summer. The unofficial remixes are just coming out now, but I like what I’m hearing… especially from DJ Reidiculous, who never fails in his production work.
