Is RUSH HOUR 4 Really Moving Forward?!
Only a few weeks ago, we got word that Jackie Chan was retiring from all action movies and trying to move his career to the dramatic side. And now, we are getting word that not only is Chan getting back into the action game, but going back for another installment of one of his biggest hits.
In a new interview with CraveOnline, RUSH HOUR producer Arthur Sarkissian has revealed that he is working on a fourth entry to the series, and both Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker are attached to return. Sarkissian said that he wants to get back to the basics of the first movie…take away all the fluff, and just make a good, gritty buddy cop film:
“I’m trying to do it closer to how I did ‘Rush Hour 1,’…More down to earth. More gritty. I personally was not happy with the third one. I thought 1 and 2 were very good. I think 3 got out of hand a little bit. It’s not a matter of just bringing [Chan and Tucker] back to do another segment or a sequel by putting them in another city and having them bicker. I don’t want that. I want something new.”
Sarkissian added that in a perfect world, he would mimic what producers did with FAST AND THE FURIOUS characters for FAST FIVE:
“They kept the characters. They took them and they put them in a whole different world. They put them in the world of a heist movie and it worked… Maybe Chris is now married. Maybe Jackie is married to Octavia Spencer. I don’t know. Married to Chris’ cousin. They live in Shanghai. Chris goes out to visit them… I want something energetic.”
The only question is…will Chris Tucker finally understand the words coming out of Chan’s mouth? Because if he really still doesn’t, I think it’s time to get a damn translator…
