Oh, Lordy: Fred Willard Arrested for Lewd Conduct

TMZ reports that Fred Willard had a bit of a Paul Reubens (Pee Wee Herman) moment Wednesday night in Hollywood. The comedic actor was reportedly arrested for lewd conduct in an adult theater.

TMZ claims that police allegedly caught him with his pants down after undercover vice officers went into the Tiki Theater in Hollywood and decided to do more than watch the movie.

Perhaps a reflection of our time, I have to wonder if Hollywood (and society) might be more forgiving of the 78-year-old “Anchorman” star than they were of Paul Reubens. Reubens career came to a grinding halt for many years – although that was, in part, due to the fact that Reubens’ Pee Wee character was enjoyed by children. (And the character itself was pretty much a child in an adult’s body.)

Now, Willard is insisting he did nothing wrong, and expects to clear his name.

To be continued… I expect, for better or worse, Willard will be making jokes about this at an awards show faster than you can say ‘damage control.’
