Paul Thomas Anderson Has Shown Tom Cruise The Scientology-Based THE MASTER

If recent cover stories are any indication, Tom Cruise takes Scientology very seriously. So how did the actor react when his good friend, director Paul Thomas Anderson, showed him his new film based on the religion?

Anderson has recently confirmed he used L. Ron Hubbard as inspiration for Philip Seymour Hoffman’s character in THE MASTER.  While the film has nothing to do with Cruise (who starred in Anderson’s MAGNOLIA), one has to wonder how Cruise would react to a film that doesn’t exactly portray Scientology in the best light.

It turns out that Anderson has already shown Cruise the film in its entirety.  Anderson’s only comment on the screening?

“We are still friends. I showed him the film, and the rest is between us.”

Well at least we know that Anderson hasn’t been attacked in any way…

THE MASTER is set to hit theaters on September 14th.
