In Korea they still have these things called “record stores” – you may have heard of them. And when you buy the album from PSY, the man who brought you the viral phenomenon “Gangnam Style” you definitely get your fair share of fun packaging! Here’s a photo tour of what is inside this submarine themed CD box. You’ve got to love great merchandising.

Off the rack, it’s got a bubble shaped top – and looks like a spaceship… but closer inspection reveals  the singer PSY is portrayed as a Mer-man with a scuba mask. In fact, the entire cases is styled as an underwater craft, with PSY peering in the windows.

The bubble top rises to reveal every track has its own illustration, featuring our protagonist in various familiar scenes… from a Gone With The Wind hero, to Godzilla, to superhero… all printed on a glittery cardstock. take a look:

The first track is called “Blue Frog (청개구리)” (featuring G-Dragon), so you can understand why they made the choice they did here:

The next track is “Passionate Goodbye (뜨거운 안녕)” (featuring Sung Si Kyung) – and the artists evoked a definite ‘Gone With The Wind” feel.

Then there’s PSY’s breakout hit from the album, “Gangnam Style (강남스타일)”  – which speaks for itself… The image looks fuzzy, but that’s actually the glittered effect on the paper.

“Year of 77 (77학개론)” (featuring LeeSsang & Kim Jin Pyo) is the next track.

Illustrations for“Hot Goodbye” featuring Sung Si-kyung. and “Never Say Goodbye” (featuring Yoon Do Hyun) are the remaining cards, and then you reach the actual CD.

This is actually only the first HALF of the album. (hence the title, PSY’s Best 6th Part 1. This half of his sixth album, which was released on July 25th will be supplemented by another collection, with a release date that is to be announced.

Finally, the music video that sparked the worldwide phenomenon.

VIDEO: “Quarantine With Me” Is The Perfect Song For Social Distancing

Published

on

“You can put your hand in mine…once you washed it for the recommended 20 seconds time” is just the first line of this comically informative, coronavirus-themed ballad.

They say “necessity is the mother of invention.” Well, you may not have known you needed a coronavirus-themed ballad but once you hear it, your quarantine will never be the same.  David Sikabwe, a 22-year-old student at UT Austin, took to Twitter to give a little corona-concert with a charming song he wrote entitled “Quarantine With Me.” The song is oddly beautiful while still chock filled with good information about staying healthy during the global pandemic.

When speaking with Mashable, Sikabwe said the reasoning behind writing the song was sort of random:

“The song was really just a random idea I had. There are a lot of songs written about staying home with someone you care about like ‘Nothing’ by Bruno Mars an ‘Do You Wanna Do Nothing with Me’ by Lawrence. I figured that sentiment had a special significance with the looming specter of this disease.”

Hope this song helps bring some levity to your quarantine. Be sure to share with friends…FROM A SAFE DISTANCE!
