Hugh Jackman Got Wolverine Role Thanks To Russell Crowe

File this under what could have been:

In a new interview with an Australian radio station, Hugh Jackman revealed that the role that changed his life only came to him when his future co-star turned it down first.

As the story goes, X-MEN director Bryan Singer originally wanted Russell Crowe to play the part of Wolverine in his first movie, but Crowe passed on the offer, and made a nice little suggestion

“[Director] Bryan Singer asked [Crowe] to do Wolverine…And he said, ‘Nah, I’ve just done ‘Gladiator,’ it’s not for me, but you should look at this guy…'”

And the rest is history…

Life is all about moments, but it’s amazing to me to hear these stories and think about if one small thing went differently, Hugh Jackman may have still been just another working actor in Australia…
