Upon accepting her award for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical, the first thing Lawrence said was, “What does it say? ‘I beat Meryl!’” Many viewers, including Lindsay Lohan, automatically thought the comment was a snide dig at Lawrence beating Meryl Streep, and pounced on the young actress for saying such a thing.

However, the SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK star appeared on the “Late Show” last night to clear up any confusion, saying that she was actually quoting Bette Midler from THE FIRST WIVES CLUB!

So what did Lawrence really want to say after the whole backlash came from nothing?

“I wanted to make a public statement, like: ‘Hey idiots, it’s a quote. From a movie.’”
