POWERFUL VIDEO: Sketch Artist Blindly Draws Women As They Describe Themselves, Then As Others Describe Them, Reveals Moving Results.
Women commonly see themselves as less beautiful than others see them. In this social experiment, a forensic artist shows the women side-by-side sketches of how they described themselves – as well as how other people described them. The results are both dramatic and moving. You’ve got to watch this!
The social experiment was organized by Dove, whose campaign for real beauty has gained praise from both the professional world and millions of viewers and followers online.
Former forensic sketch artist Gil Zamora, formerly of the San Jose Police Department, did not see his subjects as he drew portraits of a series of women. He asked them to describe the details of their facial features, as well as the most prominent aspects of their appearance. Then, other people, who were asked to spend some time with the subjects, gave the artist their descriptions. The subjects were then allowed to see both sketches, and were often moved by the dramatic difference.
Dove notes:
Women are their own worst beauty critics. Only 4% of women around the world consider themselves beautiful. At Dove, we are committed to creating a world where beauty is a source of confidence, not anxiety. So, we decided to conduct a compelling social experiment that explores how women view their own beauty in contrast to what others see.
