Megan LochteAfter 2013 video of news anchors busting into hysterics over a disastrous interview with Ryan Lochte went viral, the spotlight is again turning on Ryan’s sister Megan, whose horrible attempt at being funny back in 2008 relied on a racist rant against the Chinese.

In what is an important lesson of ‘the internet is forever,’ the video began being circulated again.

In 2008, Megan accompanied her brother to Beijing Olympics, and returned to the United States to make an appearance on a show called Closing Time TV, on which, as far as the clip suggests, she was a regular.

In a sit-down interview discussing her trip, she continally makes remarks poking fun of the Chinese people, calling them ‘ch*nks’ throughout.

She later apologized for the incident, saying she was in character, and that she didn’t mean those jokes in seriousness.

The problem is, the ‘character’ she was playing was named ‘Megan Lochte’, and she seemed, for all pracitcal purposes, to be playing herself. So the racist element she was ‘adding’ was apparently ‘the racist version of herself.’

Another problem: the jokes just weren’t funny. IF they were jokes, they were bad, unfunny, jokes that weren’t clear enough to the audience to be jokes.

Watch the video, and read the ‘explanation’ below.

After the video resurfaced the first time, Megan released a statement:

“During that time, I played a character on a television comedy show called Closing Time TV, which was a show with different comedy skits, fake news skits and staged interviews … The video in question reflects a skit from the show in which I acted as an ignorant guest on a talk show that made ignorant comments.”

She also said:

“I do see how it was highly offensive to the viewer … But as seen by today’s widespread outrage, it clearly did increase awareness of the ignorance of those who are racist.”

It’s hard to say whether she is just not funny or not that smart in agreeing to take on such an unlikable character in the skit… because even though the video is more than eight years old, people are still not laughing.
