You know how we all have that one goofy uncle who is always trying to perfect the “pull my finger” joke at Thanksgiving? Well, Shazam is basically that uncle to the comic book world. Often compared to Superman because of the similarities in their powers, Shazam takes pride in their one major difference: having a funny bone that’s almost as super strong as he is. We will see the fun loving superhero hit the big screen in 2019 with Zachary Levi playing the titular role.
Earlier this week, we saw a first-look at Levi in his Shazam getup and talked about it here. Today, San Diego Comic Con gave a super first-look and premiered a trailer for the film. In the trailer we see Billy Batson adjust to life in his new foster home. He quickly forms a bond with his handicapped brother and comes to his defense when he is bullied at school. After his act of heroism, Billy is summoned by Shazam and given a special ability. From then on, whenever Billy utters the name “Shazam!,” he is turned into an adult superhero.
The trailer shows Shazam’s (sometimes failed) exploration of powers and looks to be a lot more fun and upbeat than most of DC Comic’s other films. Levi is known for his comedic roles, so this superhero might be the perfect fit. An exact release date has not been announced yet, but we are expected to see the film in theaters in April 2019. Until then, check out the trailer below!
