One year for my birthday I got an entire box of Spice Girls lollipops. I say this to let you know how close to home this piece of journalism hits.
The Spice Girls are officially going on tour for the first time in 20 years…sort of. Back in 1998, Geri Halliwell Horner aka Ginger Spice abruptly left the group in the middle of their world tour and fans have not been able to spice up their lives ever since. Rumors of a reunion have been circulating for some time but fans could never be too sure what to believe. Melanie Brown aka Scary Spice spoke of a reunion when she visited the talk show, The Real, but then rumors swirled that Victoria Beckham aka Posh Spice did not want to reunite. After months of speculation, Melanie Chisholm aka Sporty Spice, Emma Bunton aka Baby Spice, Halliwell Horner, and Brown took to social media to release the official announcement that the Spice Girls are in fact going on tour…just without Beckham.

But are the Spice Girls even the Spice Girls without their somberly chic fifth member? The answer is yes. Posh was great for a short skirt and a blunt bob but the truth is that Beckham was never the star of the group. She has even admitted to lip syncing most of the time since she felt her voice wasn’t as strong as the other members. The best thing about these girls was that they worked best as a group. There was no “Beyoncé” per se. Each fan had a favorite Spice and loved them for their own unique reasons. I think Beckham’s refusal to join should not stop the other four talents from giving the fans what they want…and that is GIRL POWER!
Tickets for the tour go on sale Saturday.
