British actor Henry Cavill is the new Superman for 2012 film. And if photos are any indication, he certainly fits the bill.
While the actor has become known for his work on the Showtime series “The Tudors,” in many ways it’s been a long road for Cavill, who has managed to survive show business close calls for years… according to the Guardian, he’s been up for several superhero or action hero roles in the past – and while he always came close… rarely nabbed the starring role!
“Cavill auditioned for the role of Batman before losing out to Bale for the 2005 film, and was also reportedly up for James Bond prior to Daniel Craig’s appointment for 2006’s Casino Royale. He was also in the running to play Superman and his alter ego Clark Kent prior to Bryan Singer’s 2006 venture Superman Returns, with Brandon Routh eventually winning the role. For good measure, Cavill was at one point the first choice of studio executives to play the role of Edward Cullen in vampire romance series Twilight, eventually losing out to Robert Pattinson.”
Score one for perserverance! You can’t help but be happy that he got the role, but also sad that he will now have to go without carbs for the next year or so. Worry not, his paycheck will ease the pain.
