Jim Carrey has had it rough recently. Ever since the one-two punch of BRUCE ALMIGHTY and ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND, he’s kind of been on a down slope. We had LEMONY SNICKET, THE NUMBER 23, FUN WITH DICK AND JANE, HORTON HEARS A WHO, and out of all of those, YES MAN was the only one that seemed to almost get Carrey back to his roots.
Well now, it seems like Carrey is trying to get back to his roots just a tad more, but again in family form. His next movie (besides I LOVE YOU PHILLIP MORRIS, which never really got the release it should have) is MR. POPPER’S PENGUINS, and while it is mostly cutsy and cuddly with penguins, it does manage to squeeze in a few bits of classic Jim.
