It probably started in a Corporate conference room. Someone at Pepsi says “let’s make David Beckham look like he’s been caught in a totally spontaneous moment!” … “Yeah! Let’s make it look like someone just happened to run into David Beckham on the beach. And then had three soccer balls for him to try and kick into garbage cans!” “Brilliant!”
Everything, from the careful placement of the Pepsi can, (not coincidentally, the new ‘skinny’ can with the logo facing the camera) to the ‘videographer’ going “Hey David! You think you can hit that trash can over there?” feels staged.
But despite the criticism, why should Pepsi complain? As of this posting, more than 750 thousand people have seen the video…
