Tracy Morgan, On His Apology Tour, Pokes Fun At “Retarded Kids” and “Cripples.”

Tracy Morgan should stop talking for a while. On an apology tour that initially seemed admirable, his latest appearance segued into another regrettable soundbyte making jokes at the expense of what he calls ‘retarded kids’ and a girl he describes as ‘a cripple.’

Morgan had been doing his best to make ammends for homophobic remarks he made during a Tennessee comedy appearance. The backlash was swift, spawned by a facebook post from a gay member of the audience. Chagrined, he made multiple apologies… releasing a statement, meeting with gay youths in Manhattan, and even the mother of a boy who was killed in an anti-gay hate crime. He even returned to Nashville to apologize to audience members who were offended, as well as the person who posted the facebook commentary of the incident.

Things seemed to be headed in the right direction. In fact, some said Morgan could relax, and move on.

Move on, he did. Morgan returned to the standup stage on Saturday the 25th, performing two sets at New York City comedy club Carolines. According to the New York Times, he managed to remain irreverent, and quite possibly, offend two new groups.

“Mr. Morgan warned his audience, “Don’t ever mess with women who have retarded kids.” As groans and cries of “Uh-oh” were heard, he continued, “Them young retarded males is strong. They’re strong like chimps.”

Finally, he concluded with a bit about his alleged teenage romance with a girl he described as “a cripple” with a prosthetic arm, a mechanical larynx and a portable dialysis machine.”
