Mark Wahlberg Issues An Apology For 9/11 Remarks

Mark Wahlberg’s management team just emailed POPgoesTheWeek a statement from Wahlberg apologizing for claiming in an interview that he could have stopped a plane from crashing into the World Trade Center.

In Friday’s issue of Men’s Journal, Wahlberg recalls how he was initially booked on one of the flights that was hi-jacked, and was later rescheduled to another flight. Then he goes on to say he would have kept the plane from crashing.

Says Wahlberg:

“If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn’t have went down like it did…There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying, ‘OK, we’re going to land somewhere safely, don’t worry.’”

In an effort to get some clarification from Wahlberg for one of my live hits on MSNBC, Wahlberg’s management team, Leverage Entertainment, responded with a written apology from the actor.

It reads:

“To speculate about such a situation is ridiculous to begin with, and to suggest I would have done anything differently than the passengers on that plane was irresponsible.  I deeply apologize to the families of the victims that my answer came off as insensitive, it was certainly not my intention.”

I’ll give Wahlberg this – it isn’t uncommon for anyone to speculate how they may have behaved in such a situation, and hope that they could have done something differently – whether it’s on an ill-fated plane, or giving an interview with perhaps some not-so-thought out claims. While the remarks certainly could be considered polarizing, His response to them was appropriate.
