Naomi Watts has officially signed on to play the late Princess Diana in an upcoming biopic.
According to AccessHollywood, Watts will star in CAUGHT IN FLIGHT, a film directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel, focusing on the final two years of Diana’s life.
In an interview with Variety, Watts said:
“It is such an honor to be able to play this iconic role — Princess Diana was loved across the world and I look forward to rising to the challenge of playing her on screen.”ÂÂÂ
Production on the film is set to begin later this year in Britain and chronicles “how finding true personal happiness for the first time allowed [Diana] to evolve into a major international campaigner and humanitarian.”
Watts has also reportedly been cast in BLONDE, Andrew Dominik’s new film about the 50s film icon Marilyn Monroe.
