Good news to report for Phillip Phillips fans: the American Idol winner is out of surgery and healing nicely!

E! News is reporting that the 21-year-old singer successfully underwent kidney surgery yesterday.  His rep said in a statement:

“Surgery went well…He’s resting and will be ready for the idol tour kickoff in July!”

The “Idol” winner told the site that his time at the show was a mix of “some bad days and…some pretty good days”, confirming that he was even driven to quit at points:

“It was rough at times, and there were a couple of times I thought about going ahead and getting the surgery done…But I had a lot of great doctors and a lot of great people who helped me out through it. I’m blessed to have had that.”

The 45-date American Idol Live! tour kicks off July 7 in Detroit.
