Russell Crowe Gets Lost Kayaking Off Long Island

Russell Crowe may have been the Master and Commander, but that doesn't mean he can navigate around Long Island!

Russell Crowe may have been the Master and Commander, but that doesn’t mean he can navigate around Long Island!

NBC News is reporting that Crowe went out kayaking with a friend Saturday afternoon on the Long Island Sound.  All was well, but as it got dark and the two headed back to shore, they ended up in Huntington Bay, nearly 10 miles from their start point of Cold Spring Harbor!

U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Robert Swieciki says that his men heard Crowe call out to them from the shore around 10 p.m.  The 48-year-old actor and friend paddled over to their boat, where they were given a ride to Huntington Harbor.

Even if it may be considered a technical “rescue”, Swieciki says that it was more like a simple lift:

“He just needed a little bit of help, he just got a little lost…It wasn’t really a rescue, really, more of just giving someone a lift.”

Swieicki said that no one was injured, and the two men, who both seemed like experienced kayakers, were both wearing life vests.

Crowe sent a Twitter message about 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning thanking the officers, saying:

“Thanks to Seth and the boys from the US Coast Guard for guiding the way…4 hrs 30 mins, 7m(11.2km)”

Crowe is currently on Long Island filming his biblical epic, NOAH, directed by Darren Aronofsky.
