Strange Director News: SAW Director To Helm “MacGyver”, and Documentary King Morgan Spurlock To Bring One Direction Concert To Theaters?!

There are many directors who like to stick with a certain genre of movie, and then there are some who always want to step out of their comfort zone. With the news below, I think it’s safe to say that James Wan and Morgan Spurlock are two of the latter.

There are many directors who like to stick with a certain genre of movie, and then there are some who always want to step out of their comfort zone.  With the news below, I think it’s safe to say that James Wan and Morgan Spurlock are two of the latter.

JoBlo.com is reporting that Wan, the creator of the SAW franchise and INSIDIOUS (both extreme horror movies) is now in talks to direct the film version of the 80s action series, “MacGyver”.

And if that’s not enough, Morgan Spurlock, the man behind numerous documentaries (most notably the reason why millions have shunned McDonalds, SUPER SIZE ME) has been hired to direct teen boy band One Direction’s new 3D film.

Sony says the movie will be similar to Katy Perry’s recent PART OF ME and Justin Bieber’s NEVER SAY NEVER, and will give an intimate behind the scenes look at the band as well as brand new concert footage.  In an official statement, Spurlock said,

“This is an incredible opportunity and an amazing moment in time for the band…To capture this journey and share it with audiences around the world will be an epic undertaking that I am proud to be a part of.”

So depending on how you look at this, we could either say that (1) we have two very talented directors coming out with brand new projects, or (2) what the hell are we going to do with a “MacGyver” movie and a One Direction flick?

While Spurlock and Wan may prove me wrong in the long run (scratch that…I’ll put the saving on Wan’s shoulders), I think I’ll lean toward the latter choice…
