TRAILER ALERT: Passion Project Or Not, Michael Bay Still Brings Action In Smaller Effort, PAIN AND GAIN

It doesn’t matter how small the film…you can’t have a Michael Bay flick without the Michael Bay feel.

When Michael Bay first announced his passion project, PAIN AND GAIN, about body builders, we had no idea what to think.  Would the action director really be trying to dial down the explosions and craziness in exchange for a drama?

The first trailer has officially been released, and turns out it doesn’t matter how small the film…you can’t have a Michael Bay flick without the Michael Bay feel.

Witness below Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as two roid rage buddies who decide to kidnap and rob rich scumbag Tony Shalhoub, albeit with some major repercussions.  Yes, it could be a blast a la BAD BOYS (it definitely seems to be treading that line of buddy comedy and action), but after Bay’s recent string of movies, could he actually come back?

On a side note, I still find it hysterical that this is Bay’s “passion project”.  Usually with that label, one would expect an indie drama.  PAIN AND GAIN is definitely not an indie drama.

PAIN AND GAIN opens April 26, 2013.  Let us know what you think!

Plot: From acclaimed director Michael Bay comes PAIN AND GAIN, a new action comedy starring Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson and Anthony Mackie. Based on the unbelievable true story of three personal trainers in 1990s Miami who, in pursuit of the American Dream, get caught up in a criminal enterprise that goes horribly wrong.
