SUPERMAN Now Has a Mom in Diane Lane, and Still the Possibility of a Father

We have one piece of definite casting news from Zack Snyder’s SUPERMAN: Diane Lane as Martha Kent!

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures said late last night that the actress is set as “the only mother Clark Kent has ever known.”

Snyder released a statement along with the release, saying:

“This was a very important piece of casting for me because Martha Kent is the woman whose values helped shape the man we know as Superman…We are thrilled to have Diane in the role because she can convey the wisdom and the wonder of a woman whose son has powers beyond her imagination.”

Lane is the second piece of definite casting after the announcement of Henry Cavill, who will be playing the Man of Steel himself.  Kevin Costner’s name is still being thrown around as a “person of interest” for the part of Jonathan Kent, while Viggo Mortensen is about the same to play General Zod.

The movie is  set for a December 2012 release.
