Okay, you’re still reading…

For anyone who has seen RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, you know that the ending was left open in a way that neither humans nor apes were the bad guys.  Both were just trying to coexist and make life better for themselves.  (Much different than the original series, no?)  Well now, in a THR report about tight post-production schedules, it was revealed that the ending was nowhere near as sweet…

According to Fox’s president of post-production, Ted Gagliano, it turns out that James Franco’s character was originally killed at the end of the film. Badass Digest’s Devin Faraci elaborates

“The original ending had Franco’s character being shot to death by armed humans who have chased the apes into the forest. The ape horde descends on the people and tears them to pieces, a reversal of the opening scene where Bright Eyes is captured in the jungle.”

Even more incredible to hear is the fact that the ending was saw was shot only a month prior to the film’s release!  The original ending will apparently be available on DVD release this Fall.
