Billy Crystal Saves The Day! Accepts Gig As New Oscar Host
Billy Crystal is saving the Oscars, after Eddie Murphy’s abrupt departure from the hosting gig. Murphy backed out yesterday when producer Brett Ratner stepped down after making an anti-gay slur while on Howard Stern to promote the film “Tower Heist.” (Ratner said “rehearsals are for f-gs.)’ The outcry was fast and furious, Ratner apologized and stepped down from producing the ceremony. Murphy, who starred in Tower Heist, didn’t feel comfortable hosting without Ratner onboard.
Crystal said on twitter: “I am thrilled to be back there. Actually, I am doing this so that the young woman in my pharmacy will stop asking me my name when I pick up my perscriptions.”
The event will be Crystal’s ninth time as the emcee.
The show airs on February 26, 2012 on ABC.
